In its May/June issue,  Today launched its  initiative, which recognizes great design from 10  across the country, including here.

Cheryl Luckett states that her work isn’t “just about spaces; it’s about moments,” and her winner reflects the sentiment.

A multiphase project for a family of five, the renovation focused on creating a home for a modern family while maintaining a balance between sophistication and functionality.

“They wanted a modern, colorful, and elevated aesthetic while ensuring their spaces remained livable for their active household,” stated the Charlotte, N.C.-based designer. “Our design scope included transforming their formal living room, family room, powder room, kitchen and eat-in area, and master bedroom, and converting an unused office into a stunning library.”

Luckett began with the family’s love of art for the design, choosing bold colors, curated pieces and an integration of textures and patterns.

“In the formal living room, we created a refined yet inviting space for entertaining, layering rich tones and statement lighting with carefully selected artwork,” she stated. “The family room became the heart of the home.”

In the kitchen and eat-in area, Luckett blended sleek finishes with natural materials and subdued accents. In the powder room, a striking wallpaper and mirror create a “jewel-box moment” while the master bedroom showcases a calming palette, layered textures, and custom details. Luckett notes that the biggest transformation was the creation of the library, a space that now offers floor-to-ceiling storage, statement lighting, and a curated selection of books and art.
