In its May/June issue, launched its Top Projects initiative, which recognizes great design from 10 interior designers across the country, including Charbonneau Interiors here.

Tasked with transforming a traditional 1980s residence into a serene, sophisticated lakeside retreat, Charbonneau Interiors — under the creative direction of Senior Designer Lauren Caudle — crafted a home that celebrates both Texas tradition and contemporary comfort. The 4,500-square-foot Lake Conroe property was fully reimagined to reflect the family’s deep ties to the Lone Star State, drawing inspiration from their secondary homestead in Austin, love of countryside hunting, and passion for gathering with friends and loved ones.

The heart of the renovation lies in the reconfiguration of the main living areas, where the kitchen, dining and living spaces were seamlessly unified to emphasize openness, livability, and a natural connection to the landscape. By removing dated built-ins and expanding sight lines, the design team introduced a sense of clarity and calm, allowing the home’s stunning lakefront views to take center stage. Custom millwork and carefully selected finishes pay quiet homage to the clients’ Western heritage by adding character without excess.

A curated materials palette underscores the home’s elevated rusticity: richly veined quartz and natural stone from , brass fixtures, and statement lighting from , Crystorama and Visual Comfort, which lend depth and quiet elegance throughout. The first-floor walls, painted in Sherwin-Williams’ White Heron, are complemented by crisp Extra White cabinetry and a Gauntlet Gray island — subtle tones that speak in soft contrast.

Bespoke elements and layered textures infuse the interiors with warmth and refinement, transforming what was once a compartmentalized footprint into a fluid, gracious sanctuary that aims to foster meaningful moments, memorable experiences, and enduring serenity.
